COURSE MANAGER’S REPORT
Spring maintenance has continued this week and the dry spell has helped us get plenty of work completed. We managed to get the greens overseeded as well as the tees with the use of tractor mounted disc seeders. This ensures we sow the seed at the correct depth and rate to get the best results possible. On the greens, we applied ForeFront Greens, combining the proven performance of browntop bentgrass blend with the best creeping bents, which ensures the highest levels of disease and stress resistance. This was put on at a rate of 5g per sq/m.
On the tees, we applied a perennial ryegrass A5 which contains Cabrio, the most fine-leaved perennial ryegrass currently available, which is quick to establish, hard wearing and has a high-density ground cover and superior rooting. This was put on at a rate of 20g per sq/m.
Also, this week we have scarified the aprons and blew all the debris and these will be overseeded next week with Perennial Ryegrass.
Other tasks done include
Daily course set up
• Changing X2 holes
• Bark chip applied to 11th and 4th ladies tee paths
• Ladies tee posts finished with white gravel
• Bunkers fully raked and sand mover around
• Tee signs cobbles applied
• Posts and ropes removed from course
• Worn areas soiled and seeded
• Rough cut
• New turf on tees cut
• Aprons cut and white lined
• Greens hand cut
• Tees divoted
• Paths edged
• Patio jet washed
• Ditches strimmed
• As mentioned, more ropes and posts have been removed with not many left out there now, we have also moved the tee markers back a little meaning a yellow qualifying course is now available. The markers have been placed just 2 paces apart as we look to minimize the damage done allowing us to repair and have a quick recovery time. We will move the markers every day and rotate areas used on the tees weekly. We will trial this and get opinions but we are trying to keep the tee areas in better condition throughout the season as they get a lot of wear and with no irrigation they have to be managed carefully. The white markers will go back out next week. Also, next week some new tee information discs will go out along with new hole cups and tee markers.
On behalf of myself and the greens team I would like to welcome Steve and family to Penn Golf Club as they officially start this week in the pro shop. I look forward to having a good working relationship with Steve and his team.
Enjoy your weekend.
Dave.
