WHS Playing Handicap
How many shots will I receive?
Dear Member,

The changes introduced by the World Handicap System (WHS) may initially appear to be confusing, but I am sure it will very quickly become clear.

To assist with the transition to WHS this document contains a link informing you of your "Playing Handicap" (how many shots you will receive) for Medal and Stableford competitions of the various tees.

The handicap lists below includes your "Handicap Index" and your "Playing Handicap" i.e. the number of stokes you will receive in Medal and Stableford competitions.

WHS Overview:

There are three key Handicap terms used in WHS. These are used to calculate the number of shots you will receive.

1. Handicap Index
Is the measure of your playing ability.

2. Course Handicap
The number of handicap strokes a player receives, based on their Handicap Index (playing ability) and the difficulty of the course being played. The more difficult the course the higher your course handicap.

3. Playing Handicap
A "Playing Handicap" represents the actual number of stokes each player receives for a round being played. It is calculated by adjusting your "Course Handicap" for any allowances applied to the type of competition. i.e. For individual Medal and Stableford competitions 95% of your Course Handicap is applied

Example:
Jo has a Handicap Index of 18.5. He/she are playing a difficult course, so their Course Handicap is 20. He/she is playing a Stableford competition, so he/she will receive 95% of his/her course handicap 20

Course Handicap 20 x 95% = 19 Stoke received.
