Opening of North Wales Golf Club on Monday 18th May 2020
Firstly I hope you are all keeping safe and well.
We were suddenly advised yesterday that golf courses in Wales could open and Wales Golf has suggested that this should be from Monday 18th May. I am pleased to advise you following a meeting of the Board this morning that NWGC will open the course on 18th May. The clubhouse however will remain closed. Phil Beard will be sending out the detailed arrangements to which members must adhere.
Below I am outlining the broad arrangements:
1. Who can play?
As of now, we have been advised by the Welsh Govt. that only one member or two members of the same household can go out to play together. No juniors can go out on their own The consequence of this advice means that the booking arrangements for Monday and thereafter will have to be changed. Phil will be making the necessary alterations and arrangements.
It has been noticed that some people who have already booked starting times are no longer members and as a result the Board is absolutely clear that those golfers will not be allowed to play until they have paid their membership subscriptions .
We have also been advise by the Welsh Govt. that you should only travel locally to play golf.
2. The course
Phil will give you an updated picture regarding the course. It's worth noting that we have had only two green staff in for maintenance purposes, the other staff have been on furloughed.
We have been advised that all practice facilities must stay closed to members. Separate arrangements will be in place for the practice putting green.
3. Volunteers
We would very much welcome the support of members volunteering to help on the course and the management of play.
We will need starters as well as course marshals to ensure that play is proceeding as
expected and also to sort out the many dog walkers who have taken advantage of the course closure. Volunteers please contact phil@northwalesgolfclub.co.uk Official Welsh Government advice regarding Golf
4. Membership arrangements
I did write previously regarding membership arrangements and as a consequence some members who had left immediately re-joined and others waived their request for a refund. This was followed up with phone call to members which was of great assistance and much appreciated. In fairness to everyone the Board has agreed that in the circumstances membership for this year is from 1st June 20. Members who have already paid can start to play as from 18th May 20.
it is recognised that in these difficult times some members may be feeling the financial strain and therefore wherever possible we will endeavour to be as flexible and pragmatic as possible
As previously mentioned Phil will be sending out the detailed arrangements but I must stress the importance of adhering to the instructions. If these are ignored or modified this could affect the well-being of staff and members and could eventually result in the closure of the course by the Govt.
