ESN Pyecombe Pitcher team make final in brutal 40mph + wind
We turned up to play a strong Bognor Regis Golf Club at Littlehampton and were greeted with horizontal rain and a 40mph gusting wind.
Although they were about to face horrendous conditions, the ESN team being highly tuned athletes tucked into a full English breakfast and decided nothing would faze them or stop them getting to the final. Some great play from all of the team saw us win 3-2 in what on paper was a close scoreline but the reality was that the 2 losing matches only lost by 2 shots and one of those was to a hole in one by the opposition! and the 3 winning pairs won by 9, 6 and 5 shots. A close scoreline but in reality a very dominating performance once again by ESN in this competition, where we have beaten the 4 strongest sides to get to the final. Every member of the team and indeed squad, where we have used 19 players, 10 category 1's and 9 Category 2's have played their part in getting us to the final with every pair contributing throughout the league season. On Sunday, particular mention should go to 2 pairs Paul Plant and Sean Wootten and Steve Graham and Greg Ford who were both 2 under par! a tremendous feat in conditions where a par or sometimes even a bogey on a hole felt like a birdie!
I would personally like to thank the whole squad both those who put their name forward for selection and those that have played for their support and commitment to the team this year, it really is appreciated and it's this great team spirit as well as excellent golf that makes us a great team!
We now play Littlehampton Golf Club who beat Copthorne in the other semi final in the final at a venue and date to be decided.
Finally, huge thanks to Mark Hilton who kindly organised our new Peter Millar shirts to wear for this match and now of course the final. We will post a team photo at the Final where we will be giving everything to bring home another trophy to ESN.
