42 members braved the tail end of storm Eric in week 16, gale force winds and the odd show made conditions very unpleasant.
Despite the terrible conditions, there was some great golf with many matches many requiring extra holes to find a winner.
The top match saw a new face, Stuart Catton challenging Mark Earley who appears to be ever-present around the top of this year’s ladder. Stuart is a very quiet, unassuming man, who spends much of his spare time bird-watching. Stuart commented, “ playing golf at East Sussex National is fantastic, but there is a great diversity of wildlife and I always make sure I have my notebook with me in case I spot any new birds!”
The match between the top two lived up to expectations with Stuart Catton taking an early lead and looking like going to no.1, but a great birdie on 17 gave Mark Earley a 1 hole lead up the 18th , which he managed to halve.
Simon Burton defeated Greg Ford by 1 hole to return to winning ways, with Alan Ratcliffe winning a very good match against Don Bennett to move to top challenger. Both players were in fine form throwing birdies at each other throughout the game, with Alan Ratcliffe hitting 6 birdies , Don Bennett replied with 5 of his own.
There was only 5 two’s paying £40 each. There will be a bonus 2’s pot next week with an extra £150 in the pot.
