Scotland Win All Nations
...and That Was the Week that Was
Stephenson Singles

Sunday was the cut off date for round two matches to be played and in the game between Adrian Fawcett and Justin Webb we had the first ace of the competition and also off the new tees.

Congratulations Justin on your hole in one at four and many thanks for the beers for the green keeping team

Friday Roll-up

This week 31 players took to the course with the winner, Mark Jevons, coming in with 41 points. We are only the 2nd week in and already cut 3 shots.

Joint runners-up were Mark Carpenter, Jonty Abare, Andy Pow. After a blitz of twos last week there were only two this week.

Halsbury Cup

On Saturday the Halsbury Cup Medal attracted a bumper field of 126. In yet another day of perfect conditions and the course looking magnificent the 13th played easiest at an average 0.69 over par and, as ever, the 10th the hardest at 1.62 over

Congratulations to Steve Dickens with his winning score of 64. James Culverwell was second and Grahame Falconer third, on 65 and 66 respectively

Best gross went to Craig Jones with a round of 73

All Nations Trophy

An 8.45 shotgun kicked off this years All Nations Trophy, contested between players representing teams of The Club, Ireland, Scotland, Wales and The Rest of the World. Rain had been forecast on some apps so there was a bit of “Do I, Don’t I” regarding brollies in the locker rooms with the majority going of the latter. Good choice as the rain held off and we had a splendid morning.

Format was individual Stableford with best 15 scores counting to the nations total.

The Newsroom was asked to report by its playing partners, Patrick Going, David Murray and Nick Bailey that it found nearly every bunker on the course and failed to get out of a good number of them! No contributing score there then!

From 1 o’clock Toms Bar started to fill and shortly before 2pm the call to the marquee for lunch went around.

A very tasty chilli, followed by lemon tart and sorbet, served by our excellent House team was enjoyed by all before The Captain, Ron Lay, announced those in the prizes. There were individual prices down to 5th, with much counting back to split 2nd to 5th

5th place Graham Juber - 41 points

4th place Liesl Mills - 41 points

3rd place Ed McCaw - 41 points

Runner-up Nikki Russell - 41 points

Many congratulations to this years winner of the individual prize, Isobel Morgan, a full two points clear with an impressive 43

So on to the main issue and the team positions. In fifth place were The Rest of the World with a score of 493 - thats just under an average of 33 per 15 qualifying scores

In fourth place were Wales on 508 - this thorn twixt two roses seem non perturbed with that result!

In third place were Ireland on 510 and runners up were England (The Club) on 515

Well done Scotland with a winning score of 548 equating to an impressive 36.5 average per player. All those involved obviously very happy with the result

The Newsroom was reliably informed by Ally Dunn that having led the team to runners-up slot for three years it was time to pass the reins on.

Clearly it worked as victorious new Captain, Colin Tommy Thomson, is pictured here Club Captain Ron

A truly great day had by all

That’s All Folks!
