Captain's Drive-In Competition

A few reminders for those playing in the Drive-In competition this Sunday. The breakfast will be available between 8.15 am and 9.30 am, the Drive-In will be taking place at 9.45 am, and the shotgun start will commence at 10.15 am.

You need to sign-in on the Psi machine in the Pro Shop before golf. Men will have the option to select if they wish to play from the white or yellow tees. When you sign-in, the £11 entry fee will be deducted from both players swipe card balances. To help save time, please ensure you top your card up via the app, if needed, before you sign-in.

When you have signed in, the Pro Shop team will be able to tell each of you your playing handicaps from their system.

After golf, please hand cards into the Pro Shop, our Pro Shop team will enter the scores.

The lunch will be served around 2.45 pm, with the prize-giving to follow soon after.

I will be coming around Sunday morning to collate your guesses for the Captain’s Drive-In distance, the £1 entry for this is included in the entry fee.

We have a full field for the competition with 2 groups starting on all but 3 holes. It will not be the quickest round, please be patient and enjoy the sunshine (hopefully sunshine).

Please note, preferred lies are still in operation.

2nd Hole Re-Opening - GUR Notes

As you are already aware, the 2nd hole is re-opening from Sunday, and here are a few bits of information you need to know.

There are 3 areas where the seed hasn’t established fully yet, and therefore these areas are marked GUR. Attached with today's latest news email are 3 pictures of these areas and the explanation of how you proceed with relief from these areas is below:

Picture 1 – Short Left of Pond – The areas around the new walkway are marked GUR – in this instance you take relief within one club length of the nearest point of relief. Note, the walkway is in-play as it is a grass path.

Picture 2 – Right of Pond – The area right of the pond, right of the right walkway is marked GUR – in this instance you take relief in the drop zone behind the GUR – you can see the drop zone marked in the picture.

Picture 3 – Beyond Pond – The area just over the pond is marked GUR – in this instance you take relief in the drop zone on the left, which can be seen in the picture.

The pond is a yellow staked penalty area. If you are in the penalty area and you wish to take relief, you have 2 options. Firstly, you can go back and play again from where you played your last shot, under penalty of one stroke. Secondly, you can take back-on-the-line relief keeping the point that your ball last crossed the margin of the penalty area, and the flag, in-line. You can go as far back on this line as you wish, and this relief option is also under penalty of one stroke.

Please note, there is no drop zone for relief from the pond, you have the 2 relief options as listed above. The drop zones are only for relief from the GUR areas.

Hopefully, this is all straight-forward to follow. I have printed a copy of the sheet containing these notes and posted on various notice boards, as well as in the Pro Shop.

Head Greenkeeper Report

Dear members

I hope you are all keeping well and enjoying this lovely weather we have currently.

Just a quick update from me regarding maintenance last week and the plans going forward with the course. As most of you are probably aware, we carried out the work to the greens and aprons on the Monday and Tuesday, with the main greens going back in-play on Tuesday afternoon. This was a fantastic effort from the team with lots of sand going out on these areas.

I am pleased with where these areas are currently at after 10 days of recovering but, obviously there’s still further recovery to come. With the current dry spell and cold nights, it will always delay that process unfortunately. Our irrigation system is working as hard and efficient as it can for a 40+ year-old system, and we are hand watering on top of this when possible.

We also managed to aerate tees and apply lots of sand on these areas but, also had to be mindful of how dry some of the tees already are (some are still without irrigation), so that determined how much sand we could apply.

The original plan was to repair a lot of the weaker areas around the course during the maintenance week but, again unfortunately these areas have become too dry to work on, and without access to water in these areas, putting down seed would have been a complete waste of money. The weather next week looks more favourable for recovery, so we will work on these areas then.

We hope to get the drainage lines on the 3rd hole filled next week. The potential moisture coming in will help these areas to recover, so it makes it worthwhile to do now. We should also be able to get fertiliser out onto tees and surrounds now rain is forecast, which will help promote some growth which we haven’t had yet.

Badger damage around the course is hugely frustrating and an ongoing issue for us, we are seeking advice on best ways to deal with this problem.

Looking forward to the re-opening of the 2nd hole this Sunday, again unfortunately, it’s not quite where I would have liked it for the re-opening. We have had to GUR certain areas which I was hoping not to do for the re-opening, but the dry weather and cold night temperatures have hindered us on that with slow growth in the seeded areas.

Finally, I wish you all a successful golf season ahead and hope you all enjoy the Masters this week. If you ever wish to discuss anything about the course, please don’t hesitate to contact me, my door is always open.

All the best.

Calling All Volunteers - Help Support Your Club

Dear Members,

As a members’ club, we take great pride in the way our club looks and operates – and it’s thanks to the support of members like you that we continue to thrive.

We are reaching out to ask for volunteers to assist with a few tasks around the club. These are jobs that don't warrant the cost of bringing in external contractors and currently fall outside the scope of our existing staffing resources. Your support would make a real difference in helping us maintain and enhance our club environment.

Here’s how you can get involved:

?? Trolley Shed, Shoe Cleaner & General Outside Area Tidying

We're looking for 12 volunteers to form a rota, with one member each week taking on light tidying and sweeping duties. This would be a one-morning-per-quarter commitment – a small contribution that goes a long way. It will include sweeping out the trolley and buggy sheds, sweeping around the shoe cleaner and washing down the front of it, and general tidying/sweeping around the patio and our external areas.

?? Snooker Room Maintenance

We’re seeking a snooker enthusiast to help with monthly brushing/ironing of the snooker table, minor repairs to cues, and to generally keep an eye on the snooker room. This could also include assisting with the coordination of any snooker tournaments. Estimated time: 2 hours per month.

? Course Work Parties

Throughout the year, we’ll organise occasional member work parties to support the greenkeepers with tasks such as:

• Filling divots
• Clearing debris from ditches
• Collecting debris from under trees, pine cones etc.

The first Divot Party will take place on Tuesday 29th April, from 5pm to 7pm, followed by Sausage & Mash and a drink, in the clubhouse for all volunteers. We’re hoping to get 25–30 members involved to ensure we can cover all the fairways within this timeframe.

Interested in helping out?

Please email sec@bognorgolfclub.co.uk and let us know which task(s) you’d like to volunteer for.

On behalf of the Board, thank you for your continued support – it’s your contributions that help make Bognor Regis Golf Club such a special place to be a part of.
