40 golfers arrived at the club at 8.00am on Saturday for a shotgun start with the Foreigners keen to retain the trophy they won last year.
Despite the match being a pairs event where teamwork was all important, the highlight of the day was an act of individual brilliance by George Rogers on the 10th hole where he got a hole in one. Apparently, it was his 4th hole in one and they have all come on the 10th . This time he achieved it with a well struck 7 wood. If you are playing him in a match anytime soon, the advice on the 10th tee would be to offer him a halved hole and walk swiftly to the 11th!
The course is starting to run faster and with the greens having been dressed and fed after the recent micro tining, we are all looking forward to our spring golf with the course in all its glory and the greens testing our patience and touch.
Despite the usual pessimistic forecasts from the Met Office (other weather forecasting sites are available), we all stayed dry throughout and returned to the clubhouse to enjoy a hearty lunch of sandwiches and chips prepared and served by Dani and her team.
For the record, the Foreigners, ably led by Club Captain Martin Wisdom, defeated the ever generous Devonians 6 – 4, with four of their wins being secured on the last hole.
Men’s Captain, Neil Sear presented the trophy to Martin with the flag firmly planted on the Foreigners’ side to signify them as the winners.
