Airdrie Golf Club
Captain's Message
Dear Members,

As we inch closer to the start of the season, I wanted to take the opportunity to firstly thank you for your support and to update you on the progress we are making both on the course and in the clubhouse.

Firstly, after the recent dry spell the course is starting to take shape nicely. Fairways are beginning to dry out after what has been another wet and windy winter. I hope you have all been impressed by the condition of the greens over the winter, I don’t think I have ever seen greens running so true at this time of year. It has been a tough winter for Jordan and the greens staff, battling storms and constant rain, but I think they have done a magnificent job as we approach the first competitions in early April.

Off the course, I am delighted that we have Scott and his Eagle Cafe team in place. They are delivering great quality food and a reliable service. If you haven’t tried their food yet you are definitely missing out. We will update you on Scott’s new summer opening hours in the next few weeks.

We have recently reintroduced Sky TV into the clubhouse and, while it is not a cheap option, the committee felt it was important to give members and visitors the chance to have a few drinks and catch up on coverage of golf and football. Again, I would encourage you to make use of the members lounge, grab a drink and a bite to eat while watching live sport. In a similar vein, we have a full calendar of social events lined up: details can be found in the foyer. They are always great nights, so come along, bring some friends and have a great time.

You will also begin to notice a general tidying up of the clubhouse and surrounding area and I am grateful to House Convenor Ewan Hutcheson and his gang of volunteers for the work they are putting in and the progress they're already making.

I should also give a warm welcome to our new members who have joined since the end of last season. We have over 30 new faces and we will shortly be holding a welcome meeting to help them settle in easily. You have joined a superb, welcoming club: make the most of it, play in competitions, use the clubhouse and get to know your fellow golfers - you won't regret it.
Finally, it wouldn’t be a Captain’s pre-season message without a plea to pay your fees asap. If you’ve done it already, thank you, it is hugely appreciated.

With only a couple of weeks to go before booking is open for the first competition, things are looking very positive both on and off the course. All we need is the weather to play ball this year and we will be set up for a fantastic season. Thank you all for your support and enjoy your golf.
