Despite the early start the field for the scramble was full, with over 70 members taking part. It's also pleasing to report that, despite our advanced ages and degrees of decrepitude, every 4 man team was at their assigned Tee for 8.30am ensuring a prompt start when the, not very loud, hooter sounded. We may need to buy Nick a better one for next year.
Under leaden skies and with an icy wind blowing West Cornwall seniors then took on the challenge of the course and format. Ultimately the indomitable quartet of Tony Betts, John Frewer, Brian Joy and Don Ruhrmund triumphed coming home with an excellent net score of 51. Congratulations to them.
In terms of the prize giving 12 trophies were presented (details and photos to be found on the website). It was particularly pleasing that almost all recipients were in the room to both collect their awards and bask in the adulation of their peers.
It is also pleasing to report the AGM went smoothly, with all business being done and dusted within an hour. Full details and papers will be on the website. Key outcomes being:
1. David Felce re-elected Secretary, Dennis Fryer elected Captain, Ton Gair elected Vice- Captain, Mark Jones re-elected Treasurer and Gary Barber elected match secretary.
2. The section's new Governance documents were explained and accepted.
3. Members seem to have confidence in the section's recently formed committee of officers to effectively manage the section's business in terms of fixtures, competitions etc.
All present were also witness to a metaphor being driven to destruction.
To conclude, as last year's captain many thanks to all for your support over the year and all the very best for the coming year and the continuing success of our wonderful section.
