After pre-dinner drinks and nibbles in the front bar and cube room, a record number of 150 guests were called through to dinner in the marquee at 7.20 and assembled at their various tables awaiting the arrival of the Top Table.

On entering, The Captain was intercepted by star of screen, stage and SGS captain, Paul Manuel, and escorted personally, whilst being sung the “Goodbye Gibby” version of Hello Dolly. The assembled room joined in the chorus and, still with his dignity very much intact, The Captain was seated.
The food as ever was excellent and enjoyed by all whilst GM John circulated tables collecting tenners for the time honoured “length of speech” sweepstake.

The Captain’s speech was preceded by a few words from our most glamorous and exceptional First Lady, Jen, pictured here with Vice Captain Ron Lay.
Anyone with a sub 45 min sweepstake entry could only wish, with another record being broken (Steve Williams walked off with the bottle of fizz) To be fair, there were more than a few thank yous in there and the final announcement well worthy of a substantial build up!

What more can be said - well done to everyone at The Richmond Golf Club, as a record £230,632 was raised for The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity. Professor Nicol pictured here with The Captain!
That done, the start of the party in earnest was signalled with live entertainment circulating amongst us and getting everyone In The Mood…

…and clearly, as he ran through some other favs, he did just that.

A final word for our amazing house team who, as ever, did a first class job of looking after everyone on the night.

Thank you all and apologies for a little camera malfunction on this, the only team shot the Newsroom managed to get!
Saturday Mixed Fourball
Most of the early slots in the fourball were taken by non night before revellers (or those early to bed?). Good scoring nonetheless and congratulations to winners Tim Hutchence and Bill Boucher with a commendable 44 points

Obviously Tim and Bill were favoured as the Newsroom got a pic of them the night before.
Rich Lord and Steve Deakin came in second with 43 points beating David Hardman and Les Wong into third 21 to 18 on count back

Sunday Roll-up
With thanks to our roving reporter James Drayton for the following
“Glorious day for golf, marred only by some weak-willed entrants pulling out due to the frost greens - shame on you all! It is winter golf, for goodness sake. Anyway, 17 hardy souls out on the course, playing in unremitting sunshine and calm.
Tight scoring, as you would expect on the frosty front 9, with David Ford coming out a winner with a stonking 41 points - and enjoying a 3 point cut. Runner-up was our favourite lefty, Nick Morgan with 36 and third place went to the ever steady Peter Stocks, whose winnings were awarded to the Captain’s Charity, as he had left our happy menagerie before the announcements. Tough school these days.
There is much anticipation for the end of Winter Season Roll-up lunch on the 23rd. See you all next week.
That’s All Folks
