Golf Course Report February 2025

Light at the end of the tunnel as we endure what’s hopefully the last few weeks of winter. We have been working hard over the last month trying to manage wear and tear, cleaning up after winds and rain and begin to lay the foundations for the season ahead. We have started work on improving the aesthetics of the clubhouse surroundings and improving first and last impressions around the golf course. On the course, we’ve been ready to take advantage of any break in the conditions to allow us to mow and maintain definition.

Key works carried out;

Greens

• Mown by hand when required
• Aeration in the forms of slitting, solid tines and sarrel rolling
• Ironed when conditions allow to maintain roll and smoothness
• Several spray applications to help reduce disease pressure, improve plant health and continue agronomic progress in the subsoil

Tees and approaches

• Mowing by hand and ride on when required and conditions allow
• Regular rotation of markers to spread wear and use of mats where needed
• Hand divoting and sand dressing of wear areas
• Aeration in the forms of slitting and solid tines

Fairways

• Mown when conditions allow to help maintain definition
• Clearing of debris

General

• Bunker surrounds trimmed
• Rootzone levelled and seeded 10th tee and 1st hollow
• Tree pruning and clearing
• Removal of damaged wall and replant putting green boarder
• Install new fence
• Scrape and refresh entrance exit path
• Jet wash practice nets and replace wood chip
• Started work cleaning up carpark and entrance
• Maintenance of tools and machinery

Key work for the next few weeks

As we navigate the next few weeks of winter and hope for a gentle spring, we’ll be focusing on works to prepare for the season ahead these will include;
• Leveling up and resetting drainage runs on greens 8 and 9 ready for the season
• Begin building the nutritional building blocks for the season ahead this will be with both granular feed applications and sprays
• Aeration where possible of all accessible areas
• Total herbicide applied to tree bases and areas which have restricted maintenance during the season
• Top dress and overseeded of greens Tees and approaches
• Overseeding of wear and traffic areas
• More path tidying and resurfacing
• Paint, washing and tidying up of course furniture

With the completion of the above works and the work already carried out this autumn/winter, I believe we are in a better place than the previous year to start the season and look forward to a great 2025.

Thank you for your continued support!
