Par 3 Challenge
Just a bit of Craic
The latest members to take up the Par 3 challenge was two past Captains in Ross McCrea and Chris Duff. Following the obligatory photograph, it was down to the serious business of the match. They always say never start with a birdie because it's all down hill after that. Both Ted and Chris got a birdie on the first and feared the worst. The was still all square through the first three holes, But it was first blood to the challengers on the forth. So it was onto the fifth. Ted having hit a tree with his tee shot only for his ball to go into a swampy area short of the green. Believing the ball to be amongst the leaves and playable, Ted stepped into the area only to sink to knee deep. Slowly sinking, and getting no help from his playing partner, It was Chris who showed good gamesmanship by rescuing Ted from the swamp. As the three players played out the hole, Ted was seated on the bank, wringing out his socks. It was then back to the serious matter of of the match. It was a well contested match but Ted & Ken took a four shot lead on the back nine, but it was Ross who produced the shot of the day on the 14th with a shot that finished within six inches from the hole. Had there been an audience they would have gasped loudly. However, an excellent birdie was only a temporary reprieve as the match ended with Ted & Ken winning 3&2. Once again we thank Ross & Chris for taking up the challenge and as always, Golf was the real winner.
