Bowood Park had been on the lesser end to West Cornwall in the Presidents Trophy at Looe and the Cornwall Bowl at Newquay. So, this time the team were determined to do the business!
Jon Rowe and James Taylor were first out against Matt Roberts and Sam Stanaland and were giving 7 shots in Foursomes because of their low Foursomes combined handicap of 0. It was a close match with holes being won either side. However, a classy shot at the last by Jon Rowe to 8 feet sealed the first after Matt and Sam found the bushes. 1-0!
Mark Johnson & Steven Omlo were up next against James Franklin and Phil Sedgeman, this time only giving 1 shot. Again, a very close match where putting was key. This match went to extra holes and the 20th hole saw both pairs find Out of Bounds, but it was West Cornwall who chalked the point. 1-1
Jason Hill & James Slatter were next again giving one shot to Lee Bushby and Rod Jenkin. A classy performance from JJ resulted in a solid 3&2 win for Bowood. 2-1!
Newby Dave Adey recently acquisitioned from Newquay GC made his debut with Matt Lloyd again giving 1 shot to Ben Beaton & Jonny McAvoy. A super close match this one and resulted in West Cornwall winning at the 18th. 2-2!!!
Final pairings. David Goodman & Adam Hobbs who won well last match played Andre Otto and Paul Le Bas. Giving 2 shots this game was critical in Bowood's fate. A superb by our pair once again resulted in a convincing 3&2 match win and sealed the match 3-2 in favour of Bowood Park.
Our thanks go to both teams who braved the elements and to Carlyon Bay for being so hospitable for facilitating the course and feeding us.
Our next match is the Quarter Finals where we play Perranporth at Trevose Golf Club on Sunday 19th January. Supporters and caddies welcome and well done once again to our boys!
