Golf Update
Summary
FRINTON GOLF CLUB

The Wednesday WAGS section of Frinton Golf Club held their Christmas event on a very cold winter’s day and forty players took to the fairways, which was a change from the previous two years when the course was closed due to the weather. An excellent dinner followed the golf, and many thanks to chef James and all the catering team. The winners of the four ball better ball competition with 46 points were Adrian Joshua and Tony Kirby. The award for champion WAGS golfer of the year went to club chairman Alan Keyte.

Windy and wintry conditions did not deter Frinton Ladies, who not only played in the four clubs and a putter challenge, but also competed to design the best Christmas hat. Marie Gibson was announced the winner of both competitions. This preceded Thursday’s Christmas party, at which 51 ladies celebrated with canapés and an excellent meal, alongside entertainment from magician Connor Ames and the fantastic Walton Feel God choir.

Head pro Tom Hide finished in the top five at Orsett in his latest outing as captain of the Essex PGA, and assistant pro Steve Loran achieved a place in the top twenty despite discovering that he had been playing with a broken bone in his wrist.

Charlie Rusbridge, a junior member at Frinton, has won the Justin Rose Daily Telegraph Golf Championship, which was played at Quinta do Lago in Portugal. Shooting 3 and then 4 under in the first two rounds, he went one better in the final round with a five under par 67 to finish eight shots clear of the trailing pack. Justin Rose presented the trophy. This win caps a fine season in which Charlie has won a Faldo Elite Series competition and the England Under 18 Championship, in addition to being victorious in both the Essex county match play and stroke play championships, and being a member of the Essex team that became county champions. Furthermore, he has gained international honours with England, and also with GB and Ireland.

On Sunday 15th December Junior Member Daniel Jiggens played in the US Kids Golf Tournament at West Essex Golf Club. Daniel recently turned 11 years old and shot a 93 gross - 21 over par round a tough course. Keep up the great work Dan!
