Passing of Jim Farmer
Jim Farmer, a cherished member of the Balmullo community, grew up where his father ran a market garden. His connection to golf began at St. Michaels, where he started his junior golf journey. Records show Jim excelled early, he achieved success in the amateur ranks by gaining a Boys Cap for Scotland, winnings the Craws Nest Tassie at Carnoustie, the St Michaels Club Championship in 1968, and in 1970 he won the Robert Pride Trophy (The St Michaels Open Championship), a fitting end to his days as an amateur golfer, as he embarked on his highly successful career as a professional later in the same year.

Jim’s contributions to the sport were numerous. He donated a tankard for the Juniors to compete for, leaving a lasting legacy at the club. Many of us had the privilege of learning from him during lessons and shared memorable weeks of golf at Southerness. Jim remained deeply interested in St. Michaels Golf Club throughout his life, demonstrating his ongoing support by returning to open the course extension in 1996.

A look through the Centenary booklet reveals a fitting tribute to Jim, a testament to his enduring impact on the club and its members. We are glad to see our memories of him hold true—he will be greatly missed.
