Preferred lies in general play area

Preferred lies are a golf rule that allows players to take free relief when their ball is in a general play area that's been cut to fairway height or less:
Winter conditions: This is being extended to include all areas in the general play area. Model local rule E.2 (lift, clean & place)
Bunkers, penalty areas are not in the general play area, so unless marked as GUR ball must be played as it lies or under penalty.

Procedure: Players can:
Mark the position of the ball
Lift and clean the ball
Place the original ball or another ball in the relief area
Relief area
The relief area is:
Up to 6 inches from the reference point, which is the spot of the original ball
Not nearer the hole than the reference point
In the general area
