President’s letter
We held a junior golf day on Saturday and were delighted to have 12 youngsters playing seven holes. There were lots of great shots played, which showed the benefit of the lessons they received from Jonathan over the past months. Everybody received a golf ball for their efforts, while the top four scores were rewarded with an extra prize. Seeing so many parents walking with the players was great, and I am extremely grateful to you all. Also, thanks to Richard Hendricks for setting up the short course and June Salt for assisting with the scoring.
Our final competition of the year, a fun team game, will be held on Saturday, December 14th, followed by a Christmas tea. Please let John Malin (our junior organizer) know if you are available to play.
Our aim next year is for all Juniors to achieve a handicap. This will involve several games of 9 holes and I would like to invite parents who are players to assist in completing these cards. For those juniors who are not yet ready to participate we will work out a system to give them “handicaps” within their group which will level the the playing field and give them an added incentive to play in our fun competitions.
It is great to see the changes on the course which hopefully will enable us to play throughout the year. Once again, our greenkeeping staff have played a blinder, and with a little help from the weather gods disruptions have been kept to a minimum.
As we approach the Christmas period could I ask you all to place any clothes that you no longer need in the Christmas sacks which will be in the foyer in December. The past two years we have been able to deliver several sacks to Stone Pillow who have been overwhelmed by your generosity.
As usual, our wonderful in-house team has organised a period of festive fun. Thank you all in advance for all your hard work, and I look forward to seeing you at the celebrations.
With best wishes
Janet
Hicko’s Autumn Quiz Report
Last Friday saw the third Hicko Quiz of 2024 and it really was a great night.
All the 19 teams enjoyed success over the evening with some expert knowledge shown in many areas.
The Winning team was Simple Minds with 108 points pipping Double Top on 107; in third place were The Dogs Danglies with 104. The remaining 16 teams were not far behind, so it was all very exciting.
Everyone had a prize of some sort and enjoyed a super meal of either Chicken Curry or Lasagne which were brilliant. Many thanks to the Chefs and Cat and her team for keeping us all well-lubricated and stress-free.
Special thanks go to Zoe who looked after the scoring on the computer, without whom the Quiz could not have been completed. Hooray.
Three more quizzes in 2025 at dates to be determined, so see you there.
Cheers Hicko
