FRINTON GOLF CLUB

Frinton Golf Club staged a popular annual fixture on Friday, known as the “Young And Not So Young” trophy, more commonly called the YANSY. Teams from the ladies, the senior men, and the juniors played a triangular Stableford match, and this year’s winners were the juniors, comfortably 29 points ahead of the senior men in second place. This augurs well for a promising future.

Frinton Ladies played their last October competition on Tuesday, and finished with a foursomes event on a beautiful balmy morning. Lady captain Sarah Taylor, partnered by Mary Clark, came in with a good score of 38 points to win the day. Michelle Lawton and Caroline Gard achieved 35 points and took second place on countback from Yvonne Davies and Gill Wilson.

Club pro Tom Hide continued his year as captain of Essex PGA with a Pro-am round at Burnham-on-Crouch in the company of Frinton members Steve Lyons and Chris Rate.

The Monday Men’s winner was Glenn David with 37 points, two ahead of Marius Wolmarans. The Wednesday WAGS had a good turnout for their non-qualifier, and division one was won by Adrian Joshua with an excellent 42 points, with Wayne De’ath runner-up on 39. The victor in division two was Dave Monk, scoring 38 points, two ahead of Mick Paras. The Friday Ferrets held a two division qualifying competition, and the winner of division one was Roger Deeble with 40 points, with Marius Wolmarans in second place on 38. Division two was won by Tony Kirby on countback from Geoff Pigott, both players scoring 39 points.

A member of the golf club’s catering team, Sue Barrow, was honoured to be invited as one of two people asked to officially open the new Cook frozen food shop in Connaught Avenue. Sue had been nominated for her involvement in the community and also for helping to raise money for the Frinton and Walton lifeboat. Along with Mary Willis, the manager of the Oasis Café, Sue duly performed the opening ceremony in the company of the founder of award-winning Cook, Ed Perry, and his shop colleagues.
