WINTER GOLF AND COMPS
COMP SEC REPORT OCTOBER 24
CLUB COMPETITION SECRETARY REPORT OCTOBER 2024

As we all prepare for the Winter Golfing season, here are some reminders.

QUALIFYING GOLF, INCLUDING IHA AND GENERAL PLAY ROUNDS WILL ONLY BE PERMISSABLE WHEN COURSE CONDITIONS ALLOW. In particular, it is vital that fairways are clearly defined.

EVERY Thursday at 9am a decision will be made by the Course Manager and the Committee as to whether the course will be acceptable for qualifying golf for the following week, including the weekend competitions. From 1st November 2024 check on the notice board by the first tee on a daily basis.

Members have until this date to produce outstanding cards for initial handicap allocation, IN CASE CONDITIONS DO NOT ALLOW, (a total of 3 cards, ONE of which MUST be in a Club Singles Qualifying Competition), and for gaining ELIGIBILITY for next year’s Majors and Singles Knockouts, all of which have an entry criteria of having played in at least five (5) SINGLES format Qualifying 18 hole Club competitions, in the PRECEDING 12 MONTHS. AND with no WHS counting scores older than 2 years.
With regard to all other competitions, to be eligible for prizes THREE (3) single format 18 hole Club (Mersey Valley) Summer or Winter comps must have been played in addition to those played in acquiring the initial Handicap Index.

N.B. Although spot checks will be made, members themselves have the prime responsibility for determining whether they comply with the eligibility criteria, BEFORE entering any competition.

The course layout and Local Rules will be changed in readiness for Winter golf. ALL GOLF must be played from the Men’s BLUE tees and Ladies GREEN tees. Any Qualifying golf including General Play, MUST be played strictly to the Rules of Golf, with Preferred Lies restricted to parts of the General Area cut to fairway height or less. For Non Qualifying golf, separate , more lenient Additional Local Rules will apply.

Please check the updated local rules before you play, available on your Club V1 members app, or on the notice board in the corridor in the clubhouse, it is important to know the rules of the day, as for comps from November we will have no starter, as Gil is finishing and we thanks him for his hard work over the last few years.

Weekend and Seniors competitions will still be played over the winter period, and they will continue to go live for booking at 6pm every Sunday evening. These comps will be played over 14 holes, to allow for the shortened daylight period and numbers wishing to play, the 4 holes not to be played will change with each competition and be advised to players on the 1st tee. For any hole which is closed, you must enter NOT PLAYED (NP) for Qualifying golf and for Non qualifying a score which, based on your Playing Handicap, will generate a score of 2 points.

NO HANDICAP REDUCTIONS WILL TAKE PLACE ON NON QUALIFYING COMPS, BUT REGULAR HANDICAP REVIEWS WILL TAKE PLACE.

Saturday Comps will be drawn after 10am on a Thursday, and Sunday Comps will be drawn after 11 on a Friday to allow late changes to be made.
If you know you may not be available, please take your name out before the draw. If any comp is full please contact Rick Huckle or Jon Moore on compsec1@icloud.com to be added to the waiting list.

There will be no Prize Divisions in competitions over the Winter period.

WINTER LEAGUE
Entry for the Winter League is £5, envelopes will be available by the PSI touch screen from 7th October, 2024. The Winter League competition will be played over 9 holes every Friday, beginning on 8th November 2024, The Competition will be played over the front 9, or as directed by the Course Manager, if conditions are not suitable.
The competition will be Non Qualifying so the sperate, more lenient Additional Local Rules will apply
A different handicapping system applies which will be explained within the Winter League Rules to be published separately.

Ensure you use the correct 9 hole Blue or Green scorecard as there are significant differences between the front and back 9 cards.

Always enter your score on the PSI after every round and any changes, due to points reductions for previous 1st or exact 2nd places, will be administered by committee before the result is published.

Please be aware that due to the limited tees and daylight hours, monitoring of the tee sheets for both CASUAL and COMPETITION GOLF, will be done to highlight members who fail to attend when booking tees, and could be subject to the Club rules.

Please read the rules of the competition, available on your Club V1 app or the notice board in the clubhouse, so there is no confusion.

COMPETITION RESULTS:

Competition results will be produced as soon as possible, and prize sheets will be posted on your Club Docs in a timely manner.

To ensure that the published results are correct, in future any player who is not eligible to win prizes will be Disqualified – and an explanatory note will be included against the name and, for Qualifying golf, the score will still count for handicap purposes.

We look forward to an exciting winter season, but PLAY SAFE, KEEP SAFE.
