Lady Captains Year 2023
Jules presents £7304 to JPUH Charity Manager
On Saturday 6 April 2024 Gorleston Golf Club’s 2023 Ladies Captain, Jules Harbord, accompanied by her family, presented a cheque to the value of £7304 to Maxine Taylor, Charity Manager of the James Paget University Hospital.

Jules chose the Paediatric Diabetes Department as her charity and set up the fund raising team of Jaycees Sugarbetes. Jules wanted to raise awareness of how diabetes affected young people, and this was the perfect opportunity to thank the staff in that department for looking after her nephew Jake when he became poorly in his early teens.

Pictured are Jake’s dad Graham, his nan Janet, Maggie, Maxine, Jake next to his mum, Tracey with his brother Zak and finally his auntie Julie.

With the assistance of Maxine, Gillian and Sarah, who work on the diabetes ward, and Jules’ charity organizer Maggie a committee was formed and meetings held every month to progress Jules’s hopes and dreams. The five ladies remain good friends and still meet regularly for other charity events.

The amazing amount of over seven thousand pounds comes from various events with raffles held throughout Jules’s Captaincy year at Gorleston Golf Club.

A stand out event was the 72 hole challenge by Jules and five of her golfing friends on Monday 19 June 2023. Tonia, Kinza, Marieta, Amanda and Marie started to play golf at 4.30 a.m. supported by Maggie, in a buggy! A fabulous memory, raising £3726.

A huge thanks goes to all of the members of Gorleston Golf Club for their support and donations.

Also, much appreciation from all involved to the Management Committee who agreed to allow the Paediatric Diabetes Department to hold a forum meeting annually at the club. The first one in 2023 was a huge success!
