Captains' Charity 2024
READY Charity
READY is delighted to have been chosen as Fulwell Golf Club’s Captain’s Charity for 2024.
The opportunity
Over the year, FGC members will have the opportunity to raise funds and make donations in support of READY’s work to help young people with disabilities play sport and take part in healthy activities for fun and fitness.
This money will go directly towards supporting the following three groups of disabled young people engage more fully in golf and, in doing so, to access the many benefits that the sport has to offer:
• Those new to the game of golf through, enabling them to access the necessary equipment and coaching needed.
• Those already playing golf, enabling them to grow in confidence and capability as players.
• Experienced/gifted players, enabling them to move forward on their elite level journeys.
What will the money pay for?
We are chartering new territory with READY and want to provide financial support wherever the need is greatest. On a practical level, this is likely to result in the awarding of a larger number of smaller grants to individuals for coaching and equipment, but we also hope to be able to provide a handful of more significant grants to provide group coaching.
Low impact opportunities:
• Equipment - including golf clubs - for disabled players struggling financially.
• Cover costs related to participation in nominated events.
• One on one pro coaching costs (circa £40 per lesson)
High impact opportunities:
• The training of one or more pro golfers at Fulwell to coach young people with disabilities.
• Competition costs, equipment and coaching fees for elite level disabled players.
• Coaching courses for small groups of disabled young people. In partnership with the Golf Trust
What will be the intended Legacy?
Fulwell Golf Club, through their fundraising, can help initiate events that can create a legacy for children with disabilities and their mentors.
• An annual course for professionals to teach disability groups such as autism, Downs Syndrome, ADHD, special needs.
• Run annual disability fun days.
• Support local special needs schools by visiting them and introducing them to golf.
• Obtain ongoing support from governing bodies such as English Golf, EDGA, The Golf Trust.
What difference will this make?
Golf has many benefits. Beyond the enjoyment of the game itself, it can inspire people to lead healthier lives. It can help improve mental health. It can provide a sense of purpose. It can bring people together and create communities.
Through this partnership, we have a real opportunity to make a real difference to the lives of many young people and, in doing so, to create a long-term legacy for the club.
Recent quotes from some if READY’s Beneficiaries
• It’s not about becoming a Paralympian athlete or the winning but getting the opportunities to do the normal things. I found a new confidence from being able to do those normal things such as play sport.
• I trust that READY will continue this journey to make participation in sports available to all children regardless of their disabilities, body shapes and backgrounds. Thank you for keeping hope alive for many young people like me and turning our disabilities into possibilities”.
