Asked to describe the shot, Laurence said "Imagine a sweetly struck 8 iron fired at the 9th green, threaded, like silk, between the two bunkers at the front, flopping gently on to the baize surface with two bounces and rolling slowly into the cup. Well, it was nothing like that. I horribly thinned the 8 iron, it could have gone anywhere frankly. But it skidded between the bunkers and crashed against the flag into the cup".
He added "It's not how you start, it's how you finish".
He declined to comment on the rest of his round.
