Course Update

Following our course inspection this afternoon, I can now update you on the golf course condition. I'm pleased to say that the surfaces in general are very firm and dry, not like during the winter, when the surfaces were saturated. The issue we have had, following the storm in the early hours of yesterday morning, is water logging on the surfaces. Our pumping has now reduced our ditch levels to a minimum and this is helping the fairways to drain. We have seen good progress in the last 24 hours but, there are still areas which have a lot of standing water, in particular the 9th, 11th and 12th holes.

As a result of this, I can confirm that we will have 15 holes open tomorrow, with the 9th being a short hole, and 10, 11 and 12 closed. The second hole will be played from the main tee, there is quite a lot of water in front of the green, so you will need to walk around to the right hand side to get to the green. The 3rd hole has casual water in the usual places along the left hand side of the hole, as well as the fairway bunker. There is quite a lot of standing water on the top end of the 7th hole and the 8th hole but, members should be able to pick their way through these areas. As I said previously, the surfaces are very firm, so we aren't worried about any damage being done but, you will just need to take relief from areas of casual water. We have another 18 hours (ish) before first golf tomorrow, so there is still lots of opportunity for the water to recede.

We will carry out a further course inspection tomorrow afternoon, to review the position ahead of Sunday. We will make every effort to have 18 holes open by Sunday, our pumps will continue running around the clock and the water will naturally continue to drain through the surfaces. If we are able to have 18 holes open Sunday, the Men's Easter Medal competition will go ahead and will be acceptable (qualifying) for handicap purposes. If we are to remain at 15 holes for Sunday then the competition will be cancelled. I will also cancel the start sheet for the competition, giving members the opportunity to book a tee time for casual golf, should they wish to. This will all be confirmed in my email tomorrow afternoon, following the course inspection.

Unfortunately, as we will only have 15 holes open tomorrow, the Alternate Day for the Men's Easter Medal will not be able to take place.

The Halfway Hut will be open again from tomorrow, we have replaced the oven with an air fryer so we will be able to provide sausage rolls, steak slices and pasties again, without having to cook them in the clubhouse first.

Apologies for the long update but, I want members to be as informed as possible.
