Course News 28th April
From Wet to Dry
What a difference a couple of weeks make! The attached photos were taken earlier this week and a couple of weeks ago: no prizes for guessing which is which…

The course is moving into summer mode. Although we've had around 4 mm of rain during the week it has continued to dry out well in the sunshine and breezes; we can hope that it will handle ’normal’ rainfall from now on without extra restrictions. Competition tees and furniture will be set out from May 1.

Tees have been fed with slow release fertiliser. The team have managed to get the cut rough down to summer height (2”) by repeated mowing, which is also gradually tidying up the cuttings. The fairways are also down to target height, having been cut twice this week - the second time we got the new mower out since the previous cut had cleared most of the worm casts. Growth is still slow in the lower than normal temperatures but that's forecast to improve this week.

The Ventrac multi-purpose mower should be with us next week, and although its primary value to us is in soft conditions it will be used to supplement routine and special location mowing, to speed up course event preparation.
