Handicap Changes - WHS
Playing Handicap will be recalculated to include the Course Rating in relation to PAR
When: April 1st 2024

Who: World Handicap System (WHS) change will impact ALL players globally to ALL courses

What: The WHS, as of April 1st 2024, will add another part to the calculation as to how your playing handicap, that is how many strokes you get per round, is determined to include the Course Rating and the PAR of that course. The PAR of the course will be subtracted from the Course Rating; that will be added to your "old" playing handicap:
New Playing Handicap = Old Playing Handicap + (Course Rating - PAR)

Why: The primary reason for the change is at some courses playing off the different color tees changes the PAR of the course, e.g Reds = 71 while the Blues may be 73. The change being put in place by the WHS will take this potential difference in PAR for a single course into account. For SGC this is NOT the case, as such the impact is minimal.

SGC Impact: The Course Rating for SGC is 67.6 and the PAR is 70. This means your playing handicap will be REDUCED by between 2 and 3. For example someone who got 22 strokes previously will now get 20; someone who got 39 strokes will now get 36.
Whether the number of strokes is reduced by 2 or 3 will depend on your exact Handicap Index and mathematical rounding. There is no need for you to do anything, ClubV1 will do all the calculations for you and print it out on the label before your round.
At the end of the day, everyone at SGC will be impacted the same, or almost the same, so in terms of weekend competitions etc. there will be NO change to your ability to get a good score and win any specific competition.

Please feel free to contact me on hdcpswin@gmail.com, on one of our various WhatsApp groups or we can have a chat at the club. Thanks everyone and I look forward to seeing as many of you as possible out on the course during the year.
